Dr. Van Wyck completed his medical school training and Plastic Surgery residency at the University of Western Ontario, in London Ontario. He subsequently completed a registered Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto as well as at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota before commencing his practice in Ottawa in 1988. During his fellowship training he received a Certificate of Merit from the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASPRS) for his efforts in research .

Dr. Van Wyck remains a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons as well as a member of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Canadian Society of Aesthetic Surgeons and the American Society of Aesthetic Surgeons.

Since his appointment in 1988, as an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa and as previous Acting Chief of the Division in Plastic Surgery at the Civic Hospital, his interests have been directed towards the cosmetic surgery side of his Plastic Surgery specialty. This focus demands that he maintain ongoing educational exposure in the form of meetings and courses. He recently completed a preceptorship in anatomical breast augmentation surgery in Stockholm Sweden. New advances in the form of laser technology and skin care management as well as variations in surgical procedures continue to evolve in his efforts to improve surgical outcomes. Body contouring in the form of Ultrasonic liposuction and Velashape technology, Breast enhancement and Facial surgical procedures as well as his Advanced Skin Care Clinic encompass the majority of his practice. Most cosmetic cases are performed in one of two private surgical clinics in Ottawa.

Liposuction and tummy tucks are very common cosmetic surgical procedures. Liposuction is directed towards improving areas of anatomical fullness whether it is in the abdominal area hips or thigh region. Some of smaller local areas of fullness can be effectively and safely treated in Dr Van Wyck's office using local infiltration in conjunction with the use of Velashape technology. When performed at the surgical centre liposuction can be performed utilizing either Ultrasonic liposuction or standard suction assisted lipolysis . Regardless of the technique , recovery from this procedure in general is extremely quick. Tummy tucks, also referred to as an abdominoplasty are common for women who have had children and or following weight loss. Whether a full abdominoplasty or a so called mini abdominoplasty procedure is required improvement in your feeling more comfortable in clothing is one of the most common commments. Muscle tightening is performed in many of the full abdominoplasty procedures and although this can delay recovery the improvement in overal contouring cannot be over emphasized. Once again expectations and potential risks will all be thoroughly discussed during your consultation with Dr Van Wyck.

As bariatric surgery is now available at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Site the demand for body contouring procedures whether they be an abdominoplasty, medial thigh lift or under arm skin reduction (commonly known as a bat wing deformity) are all on the rise.
